Commitment to Students and Student Learning

To create a sense of inclusion and belonging from the outset, my associate teacher and I decorated our classroom door with personalized avatars representing each student. This creative display aimed to celebrate every student, making them feel recognized and valued as they entered the room. By incorporating these avatars, we transformed the entrance into a welcoming space that set a positive tone for our inclusive classroom environment.

Before starting my history unit, I developed a diagnostic assessment to evaluate my students’ prior knowledge and understanding. This approach allowed me to identify their strengths and areas needing improvement, ensuring that subsequent lessons were tailored to their specific needs. By aligning my teaching strategies with their current comprehension levels, I demonstrated a commitment to promoting effective learning experiences.

On the first day, I shared a slideshow of my favourite things, inviting students to guess each one before revealing the answers. This interactive activity helped us get to know each other and set a positive tone for the class. Afterward, I asked students to write down three of their favorite things, which I plan to incorporate into future lessons to make them more engaging and personalized.
