Leadership in Learning Communities

When collaborating with my associate teacher, we developed classroom jobs to instill a sense of belonging and responsibility among students. These roles, such as homework help, materials manager, and snack distributor not only engage students but also contribute to their development of key learning skills like responsibility and collaboration. By actively participating in these tasks, students are destined to excel and is reflected in their report card. 

Students collaborated in groups of four to construct structures using only cups, yarn, and elastic bands. This challenge required them to communicate effectively and come up with creative solutions, enhancing their teamwork skills. By working together to overcome obstacles, they not only built the structures but also strengthened their sense of community.

I challenged my students to silently line up according to their birthdays, from January to December, within a two-minute timeframe. They utilized non-verbal communication methods, such as writing on the board and designating a leader to organize the sequence. This activity allowed them to engage with one another through teamwork and enhanced our classroom community.
